Ways to Remain Organized While Preparing for the DAT Exam
March 29th, 2011
Becoming proactive in preparation for your DAT examination relieves angst and provides self-confidence along with success.
As with most other kinds of tests, pulling an all-nighter and cramming for it is not optimal. Instead, create a study plan and stick to it. Also be certain to get a full night’s sleep prior to test day.
Ideally, preparation to take the test begins with plenty of time to spare and proceeds at a steady pace. Break up the material to be covered into review periods lasting a maximum of two hours, maybe every other day across the span of days, weeks, or months prior to the test. Brief but frequent sessions are preferable because exhaustion will inhibit the degree of retention of the material studied.
If you have trouble staying motivated or require the assistance of study partners to perform your best, get together with a group of other test takers for sessions of reviews and quizzing of each other on the exam.
Not everyone studies in the same way. Try various things and see what meshes with your particular aptitudes and learning style. One popular way to study for the examination is to exercise with flash cards.
If other people offer to help you study, do not hesitate to take them up on it. Whether it’s another candidate like you, someone who has previously passed the test, or a paid tutor, the insight of other individuals can prove invaluable when it comes to keeping on a task and finding out mental tricks to help you pass the examination.
After having completed the last step of studying the material that may be on the test, it is best to evaluate your studies by doing a practice assessment on everything that has been covered. The more you do this before the exam is the more you’ll become familiar with the specific order as well as getting some knowledge of each question while pacing yourself to prevent you from not having enough time.
Though this preparation appears time-consuming, it’ll pay off on exam day. When you give yourself the time to learn all of the material, you can approach the DAT test calmly and confidently.
